Technical Coordinator - "Speed Of Life" - PACT Theatre, Erskinville May 2016
I was the Technical Coordinator,  Operator for Audio & Projections, Programmer for Audio Design using QLab Pro, Audio was 4.1 Quadraphonic audio in the theatre, 3 x Projectors controlled from QLab with DMX controlled shutters, I oversaw all the setup and worked on installation, and bumpout.  Installled flying/hanging sets/props on 10 line pulley systems.  In their own words:

"Life at city speed is never easy…for some it is almost impossible. How might you navigate our modern culture when you are unable to process information like most around you? How do you learn to adapt? Could tuning into other people who share a similar nature hold the clues? Does nature itself show you the way? Perhaps the answers are buried in the sands of southern Cambodia? Or scattered in the stars above?"

Theatre Play - "Earth Dreamed" - Bushland Chapel Theatre, Helensburgh 2012

Picture
I worked as Lighting Designer and operator. This is a multiform work, told in 2 Acts. It offers a distinct innovative style fusing precise movement, performed poetry, projected and staged images, music and song, and recorded video and voice. Totally distinct Acts, but with surprisingly similar themes and motivations.

Act 1 - “Walk in Beauty” is a stunng new multiform work, exploring music, movement, poetry and imagery. This is a celebration of the earth and humanity, with images of South Australian printmaker Janet Ayliffe, and performance by Branden Christine. She is artistic director of Burn International which performed at the Adelaide Fringe in 2012.

“Stars Falling” is a revised short extract from the acclaimed play “Tales of Kabbarli”. It reveals an unexpected insight into the character of Daisy Bates, the wife of Breaker Morant, who lived among outback tribes for decades. It will be performed by Robina Beard, who is a distinquished Australian entertainer.

Writer/Director - Geoff Sykes, Starring: Tim Allen, Susan Kennedy, Brad Wieghtman and Lisa McDonel.  Also featuring the artworks(via projections and set) of renown painter Garry Shead - Inspired by the  D.H Lawrence book "Kangaroo" and G.H Lawrence's other Australian experiences.
"‘Somewhere South’ retells the visit of the eminent English novelist, D.H.Lawrence, to Thirroul, NSW, in 1922.  In a brief 11 week stay at the “Wyework” seaside cottage he wrote the novel “Kangaroo”, and managed to capture episodes and characters in left and right wing politics, as well as striking images of the coastal landscape and its people."

A very captivating and unexpected show, sure to be mounted again as a larger production.

Theatre Play - "The Schelling Point" - Old Fitzroy Theatre, Woolloomooloo, Sydney 2010

What happens when two parties are unable to communicate and reach a common ground? What happens when the stakes are so high the future of the world depends on it? All’s fair in love and war, or so they say. But when the players are John F Kennedy, Stanley Kubrick, Tom Schelling, Peter Sellers, Frank Sinatra and a Cuban Missile Crisis, the outcome is anything but expected.

A fun and rewarding production with great reviews and sell out shows

Theatre Play - "Tom's Women" - The Playhouse, Mittagong 2009

Picture
I worked as lighting designer and operator for the entire short season of the play.  A play inspired by the paintings of Tom Roberts. "Tom's Women" gave us an absolutely new perspective of Tom Robert's artistic works. How many have seen the 9 year old girl in 'Shearing the Rams', which was so cleverly portrayed through Robina's eloquent description and the masterful projections.  The genuine, sincere portrayal by Robina of the Aboriginal Woman even down to her accent paid credit to her memory and to the process of reconciliation in this country. The play honoured Australia, along with its pioneering women. This elegant show has previously been done at the Art Gallery of NSW. It features legendary entertainer Robina Beard. Supported by well known local singer Lara Pigott and accomplished Wollongong cellist Ilir Merxhusi. Written by Geoffrey Sykes.

Theatre Play - "Colder" - The Stables Theatre, Sydney 2008

Picture
I worked on the play as the Lighting Designer and Operator.  The play ran for a full season at The Stables Theatre, Kings Cross Sydney, The Griffin Theatre Company in 2008

"Colder, is a powerful exploration of the events surrounding a child and a man gone missing. Colder won the R.E Ross Trust Award and was short-listed for the 2007 Griffin Award. Inspired by the unexplained disappearance of Simon Knight in 2005, Colder is a unique contemporary Sydney story. A young boy is separated from his mother and goes missing in Disneyland. Adrift in the artificial world of giant mice and noisy parades, nobody can account for what happened in the seven frantic hours before he was found. Years later his life seems normal; stable; happy. But something about that day haunts him. Something about that day remains unresolved. And then, he disappears again"

Theatre Play - "Political Fiction" - Old Fitzroy Theatre, Sydney 2006

I worked as the Lighting Designer/Operator on this play.  Director - Robina Beard, Writer - Geoffery Sykes, Actors - Kerry Casey, Sarah Doyle, Mark Kay and Karen Cobham

Political Fiction, by Geoffrey Sykes, is a parable of Australia now, in which hope and despair are pitted against each other... with surprising results.  A disgruntled member of the government, a young singer and a free thinking staffer in Foreign Affairs. Their journey, through sex, power, intrigue, betrayal and - finally - clear vision, is a graphic exploration of what faces us all in our fallible attempts to relate to the wider world.
